If I had known how wonderful it would be to have grandchildren,
I’d have had them first.
-Lois Wyse
As young women, we spent much of our days doing things that had to be done… laundry, dishes, work, PTA meetings… One of the many benefits of growing older is that now we get to replace those ‘have to’ activities with ‘want to’ activities. We now have time for wonderfully creative things such as scrapbooking, photography and gardening or getting together with good friends playing bridge or bingo or just curling up on the sofa reading a good book.
If we are very lucky, as grandmothers, we get the double pleasure of making memories with our grandchildren while enjoying our hobbies… introducing your small grandson to the joys of watching a tiny green seedling slowly poke out of of the soft brown earth, helping your granddaughter create a keepsake scrapbook of her first time away from home at summer camp, or snuggling up with your grandchildren to read them your favorite fairytale. It’s truly amazing to realize that as a grandma you get the best of both worlds. Some women lament the process of growing older, but it is a wise grandmother who embraces all of the wonderful memory making moments with her children and grandchildren.
