In a perfect world, all my children and grandchildren live within a 100 mile radius of each other. Well, it’s a really great world but….maybe not quite perfect. Our radius stretch is closer to a thousand miles and will soon be even greater. Now the advantage to this is that as Grammy’s it is our duty or rather our pleasure to travel the country, sometimes even the globe to see the little darlings!
This past month found us in beautiful Colorado, spending time with our oldest son and his family and meeting our first granddaughter. Well, she’s beautiful …
Probably the most troubling thing about becoming a Grandmother or Grammy, even a Glammy one, is to realize it means I can’t possibly be the 36 yrs. of age that I feel. This is no surprise to anyone who knows me….I don’t look 36 yrs. of age and haven’t for a while now! The person who is most disturbed by this news is you guessed it, ME.
Age is a running joke in our family. I knew some time ago that I never wanted to ACT old, LOOK old or most importantly, FEEL old so I made the decision …
For many women the prospect of becoming a Grandmother is something they’ve dreamed about since the birth of their own children. Perhaps the prospect of a grandchild at some point in the future helped pull them through some tough moments as a parent. Maybe it becomes the chance to re-capture a relationship lost to them for one reason or another. Still others may look at it as an opportunity to make amends or even to correct mistakes made in the past and heaven knows we’ve all made mistakes.
